LOVE IS LIKE AN ITCHING IN MY HEART – ‘B’ side – He’s All I Got
A BIG Big big favourite at Manchester’s Blue Note club in the late sixties.
Of course along with virtually all their repertoire:
Run Run Run – The Supremes, (EP)
I want A Guy – Tamla 1961 (Value £1000)
BreathTaking Guy – 1963
Baby Love – Stateside – 1964
The Happening – 1967
Nathan Jones (1971)
What an amazing set of brilliant songs.
The Supremes were formed in 1961 in Detroit, Michigan – the home of the Motown sound and the home and birthplace of the Supremes. The Supremes had a huge string of soul hits and many obscure tracks that were all played at Manchester’s Twisted Wheel and all the other soul clubs in the city. The polished performances may seem formulaic to the Northern Soul aficionados but their popularity among mods and soul fans at the time should not be under estimated.
Originally named The Primettes it took several years for them to become successful. Diana Ross and Florence (Flo) Ballard both sang lead vocals until Diana’s lead on When The Lovelight Starts Shining Through His Eyes became a success and enabled her to become the group’s lead singer. The rest, as they say, is history.
And out of all those fantastic recordings the one that makes it into the Top 500 of all Time best Northern Soul is the ‘B’ side of “Love Is Like An Itching In My Heart”: “He’s All I Got” – amazing, i’m not saying its bad, no way, but that its a curious choice?
