This record was played by Roger Eagle
at the first (Brazennose Street) Twisted Wheel; how he got a copy of it is a mystery, as I don’t think it was ever released in the UK. Commemorating the assassination of President John F Kennedy in 1962.
The Dixie Nightingales were a Gospel group that recorded this track at Stax studios in Memphis. And David Ruffin (Temptations) was a member.
Roger contacted Stax by letter and received several free packages of 45’s which he illuminated the Manchester Soul scene with; at the Wheel and later at the Blue Note club. I guess it was this record and also Green Onions by Booker T And The MG’s that kicked off Roger’s fanaticism about all things STAX.
This gospel group then became Ollie And The Nightingales
with Ollie ( Ollie Hoskins)
featured as lead singer.
